Winning project realized with the Pritzker Price Award Architect 2011 Eduardo Souto de Moura.

A new archaeological village becomes part of Hadrian’s Villa, recalling its ancient traces of the past. The possibility of designing in a site so relevant from a historical point of view has led to the addition of sensitive elements to the original layout of the villa. The entire project is based on the principles of reuse, flexibility and timeliness.

The design is divided in three different areas of intervention:

  • The Commercial area alongside the river that merge with the landscape in order to respect the historical heritage of the place, the Roman Villa built by Adriano

  • The Archeological Village which is based on the principles of flexibility and low impact on environment and landscape

  • The Museum of the Villa, a new layout for an existing building that is set to host the collections of Villa Adriana
